Unlike many of the films and shows on this site, most articles don’t get sequels. But this is an exception. If you haven’t read my first article detailing great shows I have been watching on Netflix, then take a look, I have put a link to it at the top of the article. But if you have, then you should know that I have found five more shows that I have been watching instead of normal things like going and socialising with the outside world. So here is a quick run down of the shows you can watch right now.
5. Peaky Blinders:
Now I must admit, I haven’t actually started to watch this yet. With the sheer acting quality in it however, I would still recommend it. Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception) stars as Thomas Shelby, head of the Shelby family in Birmingham in 1919. I don’t want to give too much away, mainly because I don’t want to be spoiled either. But you know with the likes of Sam Neill, Helen McCrory and Tom Hardy in the supporting cast, it’s sure to be a hit.
4. Jane the Virgin
Not exactly the same type of show as Peaky Blinders, but potentially just as entertaining. The story follows Jane, a 20-something girl living in Florida, after she is accidentally artificially inseminated, making her pregnant despite being still a virgin. Trust me, it’s better than it sounds. Jane is also in a love triangle with the father of the baby Raphael, and her cop boyfriend Michael. It may not sound like your thing, I certainly didn’t think it was going to be, but it’s funny and full of Romance and tense parts, so great to watch if you’re a couple as there is something for everyone.
3. Luther
Again not a Netflix original, but this BBC detective drama is one of the best, apart from that other BBC detective drama Sherlock obviously. John Luther (Idris Elba: The Wire, Thor) is a tough old fashioned officer, who isn’t afraid to bend the rules a little to catch the bad guy. Elba is excellent as always, but it’s Alice (Ruth Wilson), an excellent and devious psychopath, who really steals the show as she taunts Luther, his partner Justin (Warren Brown) and the rest of the police throughout the show. An entertaining, gritty show. Well worth a watch.
2. Black Mirror
This one is a new one for me, but I have to say I am already enthralled. Unlike any show I have ever seen, each episode of black mirror is different to the last in the sense that the show follows different characters and different story-lines each time. The main premise of the show though is it set in the future, where basically technology is taking over the world and turning us all insane. Sounds a bit dark, but the innovative story and thrilling episodes will have you on the edge of your seat throughout.
- Orange is the new black
One of the most entertaining shows I have ever watched. The main character is Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) a young women who ends up in Litchfield Penitentiary after being part of a drug running gang with her then girlfriend Alex (Laura Prepon). She then gets away from that and hooks up with Larry (Jason Biggs), but decides to surrender. Piper then enters the dangerous world of a women’s prison, full of unforgettable characters like “Red” (Kate Mulgrew), “Crazy eyes” (Uzo Aduba) and “Taystee” (Danielle Brooks) in an incredible journey based on the book by Piper Kerman. A journey which I haven’t finished yet and I would really appreciate it if there are no spoilers please, thank you.
