Ding Dong Merrily on High! It’s finally the festive season and the bells are certainly ringing. I am reporting for duty and ready to bring you a whole host of cosy events and seasonal shindigs.
Kick off your final month of the year with a pizza and prosecco festival at Glenfall House on the 2nd of December. With delicious homemade pizzas and over 20 types of prosecco to choose from, this event is not to be sniffed at.
On the same day Cheltenham Town Hall are hosting The Joy of Christmas 2017. Presented by BBC presenter Vernon Harwood, this concert featuring carols, seasonal songs and festive cheer is bound to get you into the spirit of Christmas.
Work off the pizza and prosecco by taking part in a Father Christmas fun run on the first Sunday of the Month. Join Santa’s all over the Cotswolds to run, walk or crawl 3K around Pittville Park in a red padded suit to raise money for charity.
The following weekend on the 9th you can step through the wardrobe and find yourself surrounded by lions, witches and fawns. Cheltenham Town Hall are hosting a Narnia themed afternoon tea and you have been invited by the Ice Queen herself. Listen to snow crackling under foot and as Mr Tumnus shows you to your table where you are greeted by an feast of an afternoon tea and a ballet performance by the Ice Queen herself. The tickets are £19.50 which is a bargain for such an immersive experience, a dance performance and afternoon tea.
There are plenty of opportunities to catch Santa this month, despite it being his busiest month. Tuck into a cup of tea and full English at the Harvester in the Brewery on the weekends of the 16th and 23rd, whilst being visited by the big man himself. Or take a cruise through Gloucester Docks as he ho ho ho’s his way through the Quays from the 16th. St Nick can also be found on the GWR railway as he chugs his way between Winchcombe and Cheltenham Racecourse everyday in December.
There is another chance to get wrapped up in the faux fur coats and have a hot toddy as the thrill of the races warms you up. The 15th and 16th bring two days of exhilarating International Races to Cheltenham.
There are many Christmas and New Year parties, events and celebrations scattered throughout December, too many for this short column! For more information on specific smaller events, head online.
Don’t forget the festive things that have started last month and are carrying on through December, such as the Christmas Market on the Promenade and Dick Whittington Pantomime at the Cheltenham Everyman. The combination of those two is bound to covert any cynical scrooge!
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
