Student musicians to perform at charity gig

Students from the University of Gloucestershire will be playing a gig this week in aid of charity.

The event will be held on Friday 11 October at Pittville SU bar, with the doors opening at 5:45pm. Tickets will be £3 on the door.

Funk and soul group Funky Business are the headline act; also performing will be singer-songwriters Charlie Blackwood, Lucy Belle and Lisa Phelps alongside covers band Wrapped in Cheese. All the acts are studying either Popular Music, Music Business or Creative Music Technology.

Proceeds from the gig will go to Children’s Hospice South West, a charity widely respected for their work with terminally ill young people and their families in the area.

The event is being organised by Charlotte Rogers, a second-year Music Business student at the university. Charlotte said she chose to sponsor CHSW because she has a personal connection to them, with one of their homes being near her house in North Devon.

‘I am hoping that this gig will not only raise money for the charity, but will also raise awareness of the kinds of illnesses these families are dealing with,’ she said. ‘The children that are having respite care in these homes sadly won’t live very long ‒ most [of them] won’t live to their 10th birthday. So I’m hoping the money raised will help to make their time in the homes as special as possible.’
